Sunday the 21st marks International Go Skateboarding Day! This annual celebration began in 2002 in New York and has since expanded globally. Now, companies like Skatistan in Afghanistan and Vans in Singapore host yearly events. This year presents challenges as many parks are still awaiting reopening post-covid-19 lockdown. The current weather forecast suggests many skate spots might be rained out, so we've curated a list of skate-related activities for you to enjoy this Sunday.
1. Fingerboarding!
Indeed, ever since Tech Decks entered the market, they have become the go-to fidget toy for skateboarders anticipating their next session. Although it can't fully replace the thrill of skating, creating impressive slow-motion grinds on book edges, desks, or whatever is nearby is all part of the enjoyment. Fingerboarding has since evolved significantly. With incredible skate park spots available for purchase, you can design your dream skatepark at home with just one purchase. Don't miss out on additions from Blackriver Ramps and genuine wooden mini fingerboards from BerlinWood . The realistic experience will keep you engaged for hours!
2. Watch a favourite skate film and share it with a friend
Some of the best skate videos and clips often come recommended by friends (and are frequently borrowed from them too)! Take some time to watch a film and get inspired. You could learn valuable lessons from the past with “Bones Brigade: An Autobiography” or enjoy one of Jeff Grosso’s “Love letters to skateboarding” (the letters) on YouTube. You could also see how skateboarding is transforming the lives of children worldwide with “Learning to skateboard in a warzone (If you’re a girl)”, which even won an Oscar! The key is, if you find something you love, share it with friends so these stories continue to be told.
3. Play a skateboarding game
There are plenty of classic games available to keep you entertained while we await the soon-to-be-released giants, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 remastered and Skater XL. Why not use this time to practice, because when those games are out, all your friends will be deeply engrossed in them!
