Skateboarding is a worldwide phenomenon, a passion that spreads through the streets like a revolutionary wave, but until now, no one has managed to tell a cinematic story that makes viewers truly comprehend why.
Since 2008, our dedication to advancing the technical progression of action-sports filmmaking has transformed the cinematographic landscape of the genre. This began with the use of Hollywood-level Cineflex cameras to create the groundbreaking snowboard film, That’s It, That’s All, and continued with the inclusion of high-definition, slow-motion footage captured by RED and Phantom camera systems in 2011’s The Art of Flight.
Filmed entirely with 4K cameras, We Are Blood is once again elevating the standards of cinematography. We seek to expand the possibilities in skateboard documentary filmmaking and make a significant leap in technical evolution in a genre that is just starting to explore shooting with RED cameras in its high-level productions.
“We have diversified far beyond action sports today,” explains founder Curt Morgan. “We've ventured into mainstream documentary features, nature filmmaking with National Geographic, and producing Virtual Reality experiences for Oculus. We create media for Fortune 100 brands across all platforms and understand how to make content that young audiences want to watch and share. But we have a deep passion for skateboarding. We really wanted to apply everything we've learned so far to this world, which has never truly had this level of access to advanced image-capturing technology before."
Ty Evans has gathered some of the most dedicated skateboarders in the world for this feature, including Paul Rodriguez, Jordan Maxham, Chris Colbourn, Tiago Lemos, Mikey Taylor, Chase Webb, Clint Walker, Clive Dixon, Sean Malto, and many others.
“I want to create something meaningful, and this is a unique film,” says Rodriguez, who serves as a narrative focal point for the film. “You get to grow with all these different creative characters. All these individuals embody the full commitment required to make any dream a reality.”
“With one of the best filmmakers in skateboarding at the helm, featuring some of the top street skateboarders worldwide, and with the full support of a company like Mountain Dew, what we have achieved is incredible,” adds Morgan.
Filmed in the streets of China, Barcelona, California, and Dubai—thanks to partner XDubai, a unique opportunity in a place where skateboarders typically cannot skate due to security—We Are Blood merges the most advanced cinematographic technology with expert narrative storytelling to craft a love letter to skateboarding.
